Welcoming Baby Maximiser

It’s been quiet on the blog for the past few weeks, due to unexpected early arrival of Baby Maximiser. I had been working on building up a stock of posts to keep the site ticking over around and following my due date, however Baby Maximiser had other plans.

Instead of this break happening in Feb, our gorgeous son joined us three weeks ago. I know life can throw you some unexpected things and luckily hubby and I had purchased major items in advance (we both thought the baby would come before the due date but not this early!).

Being the Money Maximiser that I am our advanced planning made the most on offers on baby stuff. We managed to bag a whole “travel system” (buggy, car seat and car seat base), moses basket and stand for £300 – all brand new! As you can probably tell I’m quite proud of this, especially seeing that some buggies/pushchairs alone exceed £1000!

The past few weeks have been some of the most beautiful and also stressful weeks. The joy of having a little version of ourselves (well, more my husband) enter the world, coupled with the stress of recovery and additional time in hospital. Thankfully we are all now home and well, adjusting to life as a family.

I never thought I could operate on so little sleep, having been the girl who needed to be in bed by a certain time otherwise she morphed into a not so pleasant person. Guess this is one of those things in life that shows you that you are capable of more than you think, especially when pushed!

Anyhow, I’m going to leave it here before I start rambling on too much. Look out for future posts, which will be published on Tuesdays. If you don’t want to have to keep checking back for new posts, be sure to follow the blog for updates on new posts. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter.

January: De-cluttering Time

After a lovely break over the Christmas and New Year period, I’m finally back with the first post of 2017. Hope you all enjoyed the festive period, I definitely did. In January I always love to have a good de-clutter out and this year is no different. If my focus in 2016 was on saving money, this year I want to spend more time generating additional money and putting it to work. Continue reading

New Year, New You?

ny-resolutionsFollowing Christmas, it turns to the “New Year, New You” period – a time of year for change and reflection. I can understand why people start this then, with change coinciding with the new year, but what do you do until then? Continue reading

My Top Tips to Avoid Blowing the Christmas Budget

It’s that time of year again…Christmas! My favourite time of year if I’m honest. A time where people switch off and enjoy the festivities with loved ones. A time for family gatherings, the associated arguments, food glorious food, festive everything!

It is also the time where (some) people go crazy and spend like there is no tomorrow, often suffering a serious financial hangover waiting for January pay day. Continue reading

Saver vs Spender – can the two work together?

There are many posts around what you can do as an individual to save money. If you’re part of a couple you will likely have goals that you have set together and as the saying goes you’re only as strong as your weakest link. So what if both of you aren’t naturally inclined to save? What if you’re a saver and your partner/spouse is a spender or vice versa? Are you doomed to eternal money conflict?  Continue reading
